Care

Continuous concrete curb edging is the lowest maintenance edging you can install. It requires minimal maintenance and will last for many years. Please follow the guidelines below to get the most out of your continuous concrete edging:

  • Right after installation, keep pets, children, and objects away from the curb for at least 24hrs. It will be hard to the touch at this point but a full cure takes 3-4 weeks.

  • Landscaping work may continue at this point, but care should be taken to protect the curb from tools and traffic. If wheelbarrows are used for hauling rock over the curb, put a mound of dirt over (at least 6” deep) or build a ramp over the curb to keep the weight from cracking or damaging it. NEVER allow a tractor, bobcat, or truck to run over the curb.

  • During the installation process, small concrete pieces may be left along the edge of the curbing. These are very difficult to remove while the concrete is still wet. Since we do not include a return trip to clear these away, please plan to pick them up and throw them away after 24hrs have passed. If the edging was installed in an existing yard, you may want to fill the small gap between the edging and existing grass with dirt to allow the grass to fill in up to the edging.

  • If it begins to rain within 6 hours after we leave the job, try to cover the curb with plastic. Make sure sprinklers do not run for at least 48 hours. Irrigation, backwash from pools, condensate lines, or rain can damage the curb during the first 48 hours.

  • Efflorescence (white, powder-like substance) can appear on occasion and does not look good on curbing. The intensity of efflorescence varies depending on the hardness of the water that gets on the concrete. Adjust irrigation heads to minimize the amount of water spraying on the curb. If you have had a new lawn installed and are watering frequently, efflorescence may appear more readily. Wait for the lawn to get established, turn the water off for a few days and clean the curb after it dries. A solution of 50/50 vinegar and water with a light brushing will remove the efflorescence. You may have to do this a few times but it will eventually clear up.

  • Once in a while, curbing with integral color may look “splotchy” for a few days while it is curing. This will go away as it cures.

  • Please note that cracking is a natural part of concrete products in our climate. We cut control joints approximately every 30” to help control cracking. The fiber mesh and the galvanized steel cable will help to keep the curb from separating as it moves with the freeze/thaw cycles of our seasons. Cracking is not covered under warranty. However, if your curb edging shows separation enough that you could fit 2 stacked quarters into the opening, please give us a call and we’ll come take a look at the situation. Our goal is a satisfied customer with a beautiful product.

  • We do not accept responsibility for damage to sprinkler lines, telephone wires, cable tv or other buried items by our equipment and personnel. We will make every effort to avoid these areas. If you know where these or any other private lines are located, please inform the crew. Our work is not deep enough to require locating utility lines.
